How much money the developers make, if they sold 1 million copies of Wardogs.
Just thought I'd post this from the BigFry podcast . The developers were really transparent on what cut they actually get from game sales. I don't think I've ever seen anyone be this transparent. So I thought I'd share the table here.
Item Rate Amount Remaining RRP — $39.99 $39.99 Regional Tax 19% -$7.60 $32.39 Platform Cut 30% -$9.72 $22.67 So firstly they only get around $22.67 per unit.
1 Million Units Sold
Item Rate / Basis Cost Remaining Revenue after tax/platform cut 1,000,000 units — $22,674,330 Servers $2.00 / Monthly -$150,000 Backend $0.15 / Monthly -$150,000 Infrastructure $0.10 / Monthly -$25,000 Anti-Cheat $0.30 / Monthly -$75,000 Total operating costs -$400,000 $22,274,330 Publisher Recoup 100% -$10,000,000 $12,274,330 Publisher Cut 50% -$6,137,165 $6,137,165 UE5 Licence 5% -$1,133,717 $5,003,449 Financing 20% -$1,000,690 $4,002,759 Dev Recoup (cost of making the game) — -$2,500,000 $1,502,759 So from 1 million units sold they end up with $1.5 million in profit. He mentioned all of that will then be used to pay salaries and continue content for the game.
