“This isn’t BF/COD” well it isn’t Arma either
Consistent among feedback have been the constant chirping of the MILSIM community berating arcade shooter players for discussing their preferred method of play (faster action-paced gunplay/movement and aggression). We get it, you’re an e-veteran with hundreds of deployments to digital Atropia. But this game isn’t a straight Milsim. It’s meant to be a bridge between the arcade shooter and the more grounded Milsim games. Constantly berating arcade shooter players does nothing more than push away community members.
This is the first game I’ve seen that is successfully catering to an extremely wide audience. Want to be aggressive? Pop that tac sprint and stim, push aggressively, and get rewarded for kills. Want to be a bush wookie? It’s totally valid with recon score and spotting. Want to be a fobbit? There’s plenty of hammers and buildables. Want to be a vehicle? Go for it, just know you’re not going to be the invincible CAS monster or War Pig - especially if you’re getting into fobbit territory. Want to logi? Grab a ural and get fat stacks bringing pallets and crates to FOBs. Want to support? Grab some shells and hammer enemy lines. Want to be Desmond Doss? Medics get tons of cash so go for it!
I believe many of the complaints are wanting to cater to a particular style without considering the balance already implemented. Some examples:
- “Helos are very weak!” Well they’re meant to be glass cannons. A team that is prepared with SAM/CRAM FOBs will be rewarded for preparing, but at the same time you have a massive map to utilize to flank said FOBs from unexpected angles, seize it, then demolish or use the infrastructure. They are high risk, high reward vehicles. - “Tanks are super strong!” Use the Carl Gustav or Switchblade drones. Especially the drones, since they one-tap. Or just go to another part of the map. Urban areas are great for ambushing tanks - “Mortar and Arty OP!” Well it’s designed to counterplay the Fobbit gameplay. If you’re getting bracketed, use some recon to find the said artillery, flank and destroy. If your APC is getting hammered, move it .
This isn’t to say critiques aren’t valid, especially when it comes to economy or certain progression items (such as the Carl Gustav being so far in the progression tree). RPGs could use some anti-armor buffs, Arty shouldn’t be able to have the shell camera cancelled, the starter sniper should one tap heads, etc etc. But the point is that the game isn’t meant to cater just to the MILSIM playstyle, but every playstyle. The devs are casting a wide net in the sea of players to get the largest audience they can, and from what I see, it’s working. I’ve got the Wardog itch and I think they’ve got a great formula.
