Will it be fun to play without friends?

I am a casual dad gamer who doesn't get enough time to invest in a game and also don't have any fellow friends to team up with.

My question is will this game be enjoyable with random team-mates? Or are there elements in it that necessitate that you have a group of friends to play with?
