Wardogs is the game that needed to happen
In my gaming circles for many years we’ve been talking about the current state of fps’s, cod being beaten within an inch of its life, battlefield being a shell of what it once was. And other fps games coming and going.
Wardogs has exposed the AAA giants for what they are, massive over budgeted teams that have next to infinite resource to create a sub par game clinging onto the established cult name (cod, halo, battlefield etc) but just add MTX and fancy looking skins because corporate took over gaming studios and focused on making as much money as possible. They don’t care about the games. They just want profit.
These devs? You can tell they’re gamers, through and through. They have blasted a hole straight through the ivory tower of the likes of DICE, Activision, Bungie and whoever else.
They’re resetting the benchmark.
This dev team has definitely taken some pages out of Jagex’s book with community engagement as I have seen countless X threads of devs replying to random comments by people. In what universe would you ever see activision and the like doing such things?
I think a lot of gamers across multiple generations are tired and fed up of being served a product that’s got no character and atmosphere and I think the team that delivered Wardogs has recaptured the 2007-2016 era of game devs imo.
