WarDogs feels like the realistic FPS we have been missing for years

WARNING: LONG POST.
WarDogs is honestly fucking amazing. The game is made in a way that just hooks you. Graphics on Overkill are gorgeous, and somehow the optimization is also insanely good. And most importantly, this is NOT another ADHD shooter like Battlefield, and I think this is exactly what a lot of us were waiting for. You actually have to think about what you’re doing, positioning matters, movement matters, and every kill feels satisfying. You enjoy every kill instead of just running around farming 40 of them without even remembering what happened.
I only have two small complaints so far. First one is weapon customization. Usually people who love this kind of game also love guns. We like looking at them, changing things, trying different setups, making a weapon feel like OUR weapon. So far I found the attachment/customization system a little poor. Of course I still unlocked only part of everything, but even looking at the full list of stuff that can be unlocked later, it feels pretty basic. From one side I understand it. It keeps the game clean, fast and easy to understand. You don’t spend 3 hours inside a menu trying to understand why your rifle suddenly weights 9kg. But at the same time, I think WarDogs loses a little bit of that feeling of building exactly the weapon you want. I’m not saying it needs Tarkov levels of customization, even if I will admit… I would fucking love to see something close to that in WarDogs :D Because this game is already sitting in a very nice spot between a realistic sim and an actual FUN tactical FPS. You need to think, but you don’t need to spend 40 minutes organizing one attack.
Second and last thing, I would increase the WAR feeling just a little bit. More smoke somewhere in the distance, some background explosions, distant gunfire, artillery, something happening outside of your immediate fight. Sometimes everything feels a little too clean and quiet, almost like the battlefield is waiting for you. Obviously I don’t want Battlefield-level chaos everywhere. WarDogs is tactical and it should stay tactical. But just a tiny bit more atmosphere and background activity could make the maps feel much more alive and immersive. Apart from these two things, this game is seriously top tier.
If you’re still thinking about pre-ordering it, and you like realistic FPS games, I genuinely think it deserves it. It almost feels old school in the best possible way. Like the kind of FPS we havent seen in years.
