A list of some of the less obvious tips that can potentially increase your effectiveness a lot. Suggestions are welcome!
I've played about 60 hours over the last two betas, so not a pro by any means. I wanted to make a list of various tips that I discovered either by accident, or saw somewhere. This isn't an exhaustive list, feel free to add. These are not going to be the very basic tips, but rather nice intermediate ones to step up your game a level or break down certain interactions so that your experience with some mechanics becomes more predictable. In no particular order, here goes:
• Make sure your Stingray drone is "armed" before you smash a vehicle. When the red aiming square is present, it is armed. If it's not armed, it'll just do a tiny bit of impact damage and that's it. Drones are expensive, so beware of this. • When trying to hit an enemy spawn vehicle with Stingray drones, avoid hitting the antenna, because it doesn't kill the vehicle, only heavily damages it and breaks the spawn. Hit literally anywhere else. (credit to my friend for figuring it out). • You can destroy tanks in one Stingray drone if you hit them in the back (also credit to my mate). • You can cancel the animation of building with the large hammer to build much quicker. Let go of M1 once the hammer connects with the cross and then hold it again. It'll skip the return animation of the hammer, letting you build quicker. Works best on the large hammer, but can be used with the other ones too. (credit to the internet) • The binoculars don't have to sit in slot 3, you can access them quickly via hotbar if they are in your bag. Just make sure you have a good vest with more quick slots. This is most useful if you have a heavy weapon like an RPG/Verba in slot 3. • You can actually hold R to drop your mag during reload. I'm not sure if it reloads quicker, I assume so. Credit to Joe Brammer from Bulkhead (I heard it from him first). • You can quickly spam up to 3 mortar shots by pressing C to cancel the shell view and fire up again. Make sure you have all 3 shells loaded, though. Most useful when you dialed into an enemy FOB and when you do spam 3 shots, they will be slightly dispersed as well for better coverage of the area. (this one I've seen in many spots, but I just wanted to put it here in case someone didn't see it. credit to the internet) • The large concrete walls are quite a bit more durable than normal hescos and are 3 small hesco blocks in height. Once you have access to the big hammer, build them instead. Make sure you don't leave any gaps though, especially in the corners. If you wanna be extra thorough, you can build the concrete walls up on 2x hescos for the max height with reasonable build times. • When building something that takes a while, like a drill, go to one of its corners and step away from the building by a tiny bit every time you hit an X. The Xs for quicker building appear only within the range that you can reach, so by doing this, you'll eventually stand far enough away that the X will appear in the same spot. This ensures that you don't have to run around to build it. Combine with the animation cancelling tip from above for max results. • If you're running logistics on a Ural and your FOB was taken over by an enemy with your team lacking explosives to get inside, drive your Ural close to a wall so the team can climb into the FOB to contest it. I'm pretty sure you can climb over the concrete walls easily. Bonus tip, you can climb over 4X hesco walls using the more advanced covered Ural, but only if your kit weighs less than 10kg total. (I never unlocked it myself, just tested it on a shooting range). • If you're doing logistics, make sure to have a basic wrench with you on the off chance you flip and damage your gas tank. Damaged gas tank leaks fuel really quickly and you will not make it to the base. I had to run 1km to the base to buy the wrench and a gas canister to "save" my vehicle to keep doing logi xD • When you reload a weapon, you can sometimes accidentally cancel the animation at the last moment by sprinting or something and skip loading a round in the chamber. Pay attention to your HUD and make sure the bullet turns white. Otherwise you might be unpleasantly surprised that after a sprint your gun doesn't shoot immediately xD • Make sure to utilise various guns during your runs to mix the EXP that you're getting. If you're always buying an AK, it might be tougher to get medical EXP to level it up. SMGs are very potent early as well and give medical EXP. Same with shotguns and support EXP. Basically use the guns that complement your intended playstyle. But, obviously, I ain't your mom to tell you what to do. These are all off the top of my head. Feel free to add more. Most of them I found out myself or my friend discovered that. I do not claim that I'm the inventor of those in any way, this is just a compilation that I hope you find useful.
P.S. The Wardogs withdrawal hits hard...
Edit: I'm very sorry you had to read that horrible edit. I forgot to press enter before the list. Got distracted right after posting and didn't check.
