Constructive Feedback/Opinions about Wardogs
Hi, I'll break this down into 2 sections, Good/Bad. The bad section will also have recommendations for how I would fix it. I tried to test all aspects of gameplay but obviously couldn't do EVERYTHING.
Overall I give my experience playing the game a 7/10.
Good:
• The tutorial/introductory period of the game is explained well and don't make the game feel overwhelming. It teaches you the essentials and leaves room to learn more. • The graphics along with the performance of the game were great. • People talked(and typed) a LOT, sometimes tactically and sometimes just random stuff but it added to teamplay and joy of playing the game. • The objective of the game was simple and straightforward. • Spending money for gear gives a great incentive to use your money wisely and not just run in and die. • Money earned for things that aren't necessarily killing someone makes a variety of playstyles viable. • The ability to tip someone for doing things is a great mechanic. • Weapons handled fairly well and attachments felt like they made a difference. • Base(FOB) building is extensive and cool, possibly too strong around towers? • Logistics/transportation as a role felt necessary and important. • Weight system and movement speed felt good, maybe tac sprint isn't needed. Bad: Ordered most important to least.
• Tower related gameplay felt tedious/annoying. Getting sniped at from towers, AA on towers, pushing the tower with people camping the very top and shooting anyone that climbs a ladder, etc, all felt very cheesy and did not immerse or engage me like many of the other elements of the game have.
• Fix : 3 options- Remove all towers(maybe add a way to build some height in FOBs), reduce the number of towers to THREE(each faction gets one near their side of the circle), OR have one large central tower which serves as a point of contention. • Changing the tower mechanic(attract hotzone) might also be a good idea. We already have the FOB drill that does that. Maybe it instead calls in a UAV around the tower? or maybe an airstrike at a targeted location? • Other objectives are needed. Currently everyone either stays at a FOB/tower or very occasionally pushes towards the hotzone which might move away as soon as they end up clearing the area.
• Fix : Add airdrops that drop supplies and/or money when captured. A bounty system which marks a high performing player and awards you for killing them or them for surviving. A CTF style objective that has you acquire data(or whatever) and bring it to a friendly FOB to earn points for your team. The ideas here are limitless. The hotzone also needs to award more money. • Blue faction has a disadvantage due to being surrounded on both sides.
• Fix : The factions should be in a triangle shape instead of a "T" shape on the map. • The roles system is decent but could be much better.
• Fix : Add a way to show/choose what role you are currently playing. If I join a game, I should easily be able to tell that there are 5 other people transporting infantry or 8 people with RPGs hunting for tanks so I don't also end up doing the same thing. Maybe add more roles, ex: builder, anti-tank, logistics, cqb, transport, defense, etc. • Enemies seemed VERY squishy sometimes and VERY tanky other times. Same with myself when getting shot. It felt like I couldn't correctly predict when I should engage an enemy since I didn't know how quickly they or I would die.
• Fix : Not sure if this is a hit-reg issue or an issue with how armor/bullet damage works. • Squad play seems very lacking. Currently the only point of a squad is to see where your squadmates are and to talk without enemies being able to hear you.
• Fix : Allow Squad Leader's to place semi-permanent markers on the map that everyone in the game can see and add a separate voice channel just for squad leader communications. Highlight squad leader messages in chat. • Pings and the Compass are not nearly as good as they could be(not talking about marking with binos). Pings disappear from the map too fast, there are only two type of pings(white/red). I do like that if you're being transported you can request dropoff but again, that ping also goes away way too fast. The compass doesn't prove enough information.
• Fix : The comm wheel should let you place a variety of temporary pings for your squad to see rather than just be used as a communication tool. The compass should also show team and squad markings. The compass should NOT be white, it blends in with the sky too often. Or let us move it to the bottom of the screen. • The Redeploy vehicle is often just parked at a tower rather than used as a offensive tool.
• Fix : Reduce the cooldown of the smoke ability it has, and give it other defensive tools such as a close range spotting ability or MAYBE offensive tools such as an outside gunner. • Spawns seems ok but an alternate way to spawn with your squad might be beneficial and encourage squad play.
• Fix : Increase the redeploy vehicle spawn timer but add a device to let FOB builders build a respawn point which has a cooldown(kind of how the drill to call the circle works right now). It can also be an individual cooldown like you can spawn there once every 10 minutes. This will add diversity to how/where you get into combat, encourage building/defending FOBs, and allow the redeploy vehicle to be used in other ways besides parking it in a FOB. • Vehicles(especially MBTs) felt somewhat weak/restricted. I know they might have seemed powerful but remember not everyone had access to RPGs/anti-vehicle options.
• Fix : Give MBTs and maybe other vehicles more zoom so they can play at range. Give vehicles a "commander seat" from which someone can observe/spot/direct the vehicle. The huey heli needs to be a bit more maneuverable. The AA needs to have less total ammo so it's forced to resupply more often. • Resupplying isn't easy and sometimes not possible. When I run out of ammo, rockets, grenades, etc, it's not easy to get more(besides finding them on a body).
• Fix : Add a way(besides typing in chat) to easily signal to a logistics player that you need a certain type of resource at a certain location. For example, functionality for the squad leader to "Request Supplies" on map and then a pilot could acknowledge that request by clicking on the ping and then you could just type "I need 5.45x45 ammo and batteries." Maybe the pilot/squad leader's messages are highlighted to each other for the duration of this interaction for easy communication. • Base camping will be an issue. Just a bit of a prediction, people will get very frustrated with the game because of it.
• Fix : Some sort of radar on/around the path to your base should warn of you of enemy presence in the area(not an exact spot). • Cash earned might need another pass in terms of what is valuable to do. (This is highly opinionated).
• Fix : Highest to lowest earning actions should be: Objectives(Actions/presence in hotzone, hacking FOB)>High Skill Combat(headshots, multi-kills, etc)>Combat(infantry/vehicle kills)>Teamplay(revives, assists, etc)>Transportation(heli/truck infantry dropoffs)>FOB building/logistics(maybe reduced kill money from FOB defenses such as mortars or AA). It's kind of already like this but it needs more refining. More money should be awarded for winning the game or getting 2nd, however, this might breed toxicity. • Sniping playstyle is a little bit too safe/rewarding/strong. This one might just be an opinion but ghillie suit SVD/mosin gameplay felt fairly overwhelming to go against especially if you were trying to play for the hot zone.
• Fix : Make snipers or sniper ammo more expensive OR reward snipers less for getting kills. This issue might also fixed by other fixes such as removing towers, or rewarding hotzone gameplay more. • Other mildly problematic things:
• Soldier visibility(especially in the forest) felt like a bit of an issue. • Mortars are cool but feel kind of spammy and are a little too annoying. • RPG hits themselves do not grant any money for damaging a vehicle, you only get money if you assist with or destroy the vehicle. • An attack heli(yes I saw one) did not die to a direct RPG hit. • A way to see where my old body/gear is would be nice. • Weapons+attachments need to have stats/numbers • ATVs should be free, maybe just periodically spawn a bunch in base. it's the worst method of transport anyway. • Vehicles will need a team spawn limit, ex: "3/3 MBTs Active, Wait until one is destroyed to purchase." Anyway, cool game.
