PSA: IEDs do way more damage than C4 and is more economical for destroying static structures like FOBs.
I think a lot of people assume c4 is better than the IED because it stacks, unlocks later, and explodes instantly, but it's not. They're different tools with different purposes and both are good.
For reference it takes about 5 C4 to take out a FOB ($250 x 5, $500 detonator, total $1750; 5 inventory slots including detonator), whereas it only takes 1 IED to destroy a FOB ($300; 2 inventory slots).
I've started always carrying two IEDs on my sniper load out. It's not uncommon that I find a lightly defended FOB while doing recon. 2 IEDs is just enough to blow open the gate and then blow up the FOB behind it.
With IEDs it only costs $600 and 4 inventory slots to destroy a FOB and gate which will get you back an easy $3000+
For comparison, with C4 it will cost $2000 (detonator plus 6 charges) and 5 inventory slots, making it way worse in terms of both price and inventory space.
Tl;Dr, if you're primarily planning on hunting static defenses, bring IEDs instead of C4.
C4 is still good but better for moving targets like vehicles.
