Candid feedback: the Leopard tank is not worth the grind.
My buddy unlocked the tank yesterday and we spent some time playing around with it. It's really not worth the level 35 driver grind, and for anyone trying to get it, I would say perhaps spend your time doing something else.
We weren't expecting an immediate "I win the match" vehicle but we did at least hope that it would serve some purpose on the battlefield to justify its insane grind and price point. Based on our experience last night, it is only useful as a CQB brawler type of vehicle in which case they should've added an IFV, and the M249 and Minigun Humvees are simply better than it in almost every way if you're looking for that sort of play style.
As it currently stands:
• The main gun has very low shell velocity which causes insane drop at anything beyond 150-200 meters. • This cannot be remedied via any sort of laser or manual rangefinding system as far as we can tell, so if you do see anyone that isn't in your immediate vicinity you cannot reliably hit them. • The coaxial machine gun has exaggerated RNG spread mechanics that, again, make hitting enemy that isn't within your immediate vicinity incredibly frustrating. • It's painfully slow. Both in terms of engine power and turret traversal speed. • There is no commander role which means that you cannot have anyone spot targets for the gunner. You instead just get a "machine gun" view from the top which is not useful at all for spotting targets and leaves you basically a free kill to any sniper worth a damn. • Also, no thermal imaging on the gunner view either. • It has no smoke grenades which would be useful for a quick retreat and instead you get a very, very underwhelming smoke trail ability that barely even covers the entirety of the tank. • Gun stabilisation is wonky as well, I can tell it's there but implemented poorly so half the time it feels bad to use and you really need to wait for the driver to stand still before you can reliably shoot. • No variety of shell types, you get a default HEAT multipurpose shell which feels inconsistent to use against buildings where enemies may be hiding. It appears that the tiniest pixel of indestructible material can completely negate all of the damage it does. Not just that, but it appears that you cannot one-shot Tier 3 and Tier 4 armours. I haven't tested the damage on it extensively but if this is the case then it makes the ONE potential counter against Tier3/Tier4 gigachads useless. They can just full-heal back up again by the time I reload my main gun. It's loud, it's big, and it attracts a lot of attention. It's a free kill ticket for anyone that wants it. At its best It's a WW2 vehicle because it is stripped of all of the useful features that make tanks good in real life and other milsim games.
As it stands I cannot recommend the insane grind and price for this vehicle as you're probably not likely to be profitable with it, especially now later in the wipe when everyone and their grandma has unlocked C4, IEDs, rocket launchers, the rocket helicopter, mines, and so on.
