No Momentum, no urgency

I was lucky enough to play the Alpha. And I have to say, it was fine. If I had to score it a solid 7 out of 10.

The Wardogs glaze is much deserved and warranted given the bones of the game are actually quite good. The constant drip of reward for playing the game feels like it really wants players to keep doing actions that help the team.

But a huge problem, and I think the one that will likely cause the most player retention issue, is there is no momentum to the match. The matches are far far too long, the reward for winning is far too little, and the incentive to stay and actually play the objective is often far and away from what most people will end up doing.

Now, perhaps when most of the newer community condenses into people who actually know what to do, how to do it, it could absolutely help. But for new and casual players this game is absolutely not going to hold them. The mode just feels like it a bunch of individualized actions and money making system.

But the actual push to make a play that can change the outcome of a match, or having direction to understand what you could do to change the outcome of a match, those don’t exist. Camping towers and fortifying them are far and away the easiest and best ways to make money.

Some matches being 2 hours, it feels like nothing you do is actually doing anything. Yeah you’re gaining money, but there isn’t really any urgency or momentum that you are doing something that matters.

Maybe this is what the community wants. Maybe this is the vision of the devs. But I don’t see this game going very far if every match has no momentum, no urgency, no incentive to win. It’s just a bunch of individual dudes reviving each other for some cash and that’s…pretty much it.
