Alpha Playtest from a no-life.
First things first, I absolutely had a ball over the weekend. I got to level 63 within 2 days and didn’t play too much on Sunday.
I ended up being this Master Architect for the Manticore team on server #21. Had a blast…literally. I made majority of my money building and designing, didn’t leave the FOB at all for a few matches.
I appreciated the grind for stuff. It gave the game longevity. This might not be popular with gamers because most people want quick access to things but as the devs have mentioned previously, this game isn’t for everyone, and I love that.
Investing into your FOB and playing as a team with flowing logistics, search and destroy squads, as well as builders is rewarding. This is how we won a lot of our games.
It actually took “a lot” to kill someone. The TTK forced you to land shots, it wasn’t fast by any means. It wasn’t too slow, in my opinion.
It took awhile for the drill to cool down, so you couldn’t spam the circle over to your FOB unless you had multiple FOBS with efficient enough resources. Having more than 1 FOB with enough resources was extremely difficult to put together.
Unlike Squad, my playing experience wasn’t heavily weighted on who my squad leader was. You had freedom to choose who and how you wanted to play.
I enjoyed having 1 really built up FOB, what I didn’t enjoy was getting artillery barraged by a PZH 2000 all game. This is the downside of only having 1 FOB and not having a team that deals with it. I believe it’s best to have 2 FOBS but only a second one after your first one is self-reliant with AA and such.
Friendly hammer damage needs to be toned down, I kept getting bonked by friendlies as we were building stuff. I don’t think this would negatively impact gameplay at all. Another idea I have is to be able to create custom blueprints of structures in the test range and have the ability to paste them in a match, that might be cool and really reward the master support players.
I observed people complaining about friendlies “playing Minecraft” inside the base or “camping” but if that’s how we’re winning, I don’t see how that argument is valid. It’s fun to fight around defenses that you build, to see how your creations holds up. On the contrary, is also fun to go search and destroy other teams FOBS. Supporting an attack with mortars, destroying walls so your team can penetrate the defenses. It’s a fun time.
One thing I noticed is that there isn’t a keybind to drop cargo from a helicopter via controller. At least as far as I could see. You actually couldn’t change the key binds on the controller at all, so I don’t think it was fully supported in this Alpha version. Hoping they allow that in full release.
The performance of the game was beautiful. I had no issues at all. It looked good enough to me graphics wise and especially for an Alpha, yeah, it ran really well.
This will for sure be my go-to game and I’m glad the Devs know this ain’t for everyone and that they stick to their guns.
On a side note , did ya’ll think the blue team was significantly worse than the other two teams? They were almost never competitive in any of my matches😂.
