Huge weekend for FPS fans not only because of @WARDOGS beta success (nearly 250k pccu 😲) but also the @FPSGamesShow with 130k viewers; show casing games across the genre.
In reflection, this for me isn’t even just about the games but the industry as a whole, 25 years I’ve been gaming (unc status) as a dev, esports player and content creator, so I’ve seen a lot change for better and worse. @Brammflakes and I spent way more time in business and political meetings than we ever wanted, talking to people who didn’t get it or asking why players would enjoy @WARDOGS fuelled purely on past data, huge expectations and budgets. We just wanted to make the game lol.
The game reached third on steam this weekend in a closed beta, with no paid advertising, purely organic by our internal team of 6 who marketed the game superbly by just being honest about what the game is, and with that we managed to reach the right audience, which was easy because we have a team behind us creating the game who also wholly believe in it. Genuine interest and playing it for the love of the game, so thanks to anyone who covered it.
Not only that but they ran the @FPSGamesShow which was created in a matter of weeks, loads of great fps games and studios all with one goal, show their content to players without ridiculous price tags, in this case, zero.
To me personally it made the weekend feel like a bigger win imo. Thanks to anyone who played these last few betas or watched any content, even if you played and didn’t like it and keep telling me it’s trash, no problem 😂 you still showed that you were willing to try which means a lot to us as we were told the game was ‘way to niche’ and hopefully you’ll try again in the future.
We’re well aware these numbers will be short lived and will tail off over the next few months until we reach our 1.0 release but for many of us at the studio who grew up playing games like cod, cs, battlefield - to create a game that sat amoung them for any period of time has been a great experience either way.
Back to work for us as normal tomorrow as we prep for September 10th. 👍🏻 We’re aware there’s lots to improve, fix and balance over time but that’s part of the process. We have had many thousands of comments or suggestions from all types of players. I think it’s important to raise while we read and watch as much as we can, we have a talented team who has likely thought of, tested, considered the majority of feedback already. There’s reasons we can’t/wont/will eventually do something within the game. I’ve seen hundreds of suggestions that X is broken while another few hundred say how much they enjoy it. DUMB DEVS change X without realising it’s designed that way for a reason.
Ultimately @WARDOGS will never reach a point of true balance or perfection, that’s impossible.. and not even the goal. Metas will always form every season and update that we do, we see this same cycle with every game that releases. We have our plans and will continue to act on them, hopefully you’ll join us for the journey, alone or with your friend’s through EA to 1.0. Cheers 🤙
