It has been brought to our attention that some Server Providers are offering 'Pre-Orders' on WARDOGS Servers.
These providers do not have access to the game or server code as we have been so protective of it.
At launch only x2 Server Hosting Companies will have the relevant systems to be able to host WARDOGS servers to individuals.
This is for a number of reasons... Read this thread:
Reason 1 - Maintaining Quality & Performance
At this point it should be obvious that BULKHEAD takes performance very seriously. WARDOGS is a demanding game with a lot happening, when you have a bad network experience or come across network related issues we want it to be because of us.
We have witnessed other FPS games that have allowed server hosts to overload their server infrastructure to increase their profits, at the expense of game network performance. This is not a criticism this is standard practice, but for us we wanted to make sure our players have the absolute best performance that we can deliver.
For this reason we have a very specific server license / contract that is offered to providers that demands certain standards are not just met but consistently maintained.
The two server providers have been selected after rigourous testing with our players since April 2026. There is a test that providers must pass and the two in question have been the two who have passed our standards, there are others in the pipeline and we are working with them to guarentee the same level of performance on community servers as official servers, so that you have a seamless transition.
Reason 2 - Security
We do not release our server code for anyone to be able to host a server. This is a massive security risk (and makes Reason 1 unmanagable).
Whilst most hosts have good intentions, the bad actors can use the information in our server code to breach our security systems.
We are choosing security and performance over quantity and will not be allowing everyone and anyone to have the server code.. However, of course anyone will be able to host a server from the approved hosting companies.
Note - Forgoing Profits
Many server providers have offered us profit share schemes, which is very common with server hosts. But, we chose to negate this and instead asked them to run better hardware.
We do not control their prices, we currently allow hosts to set their own price but we demand that they maintain a certain quality.
Note - Why so quiet?
We acknowledge we've been quiet about server administration. The honest answer is we've just been busy.
In the background we've been working on an RCON Tool for admins where they can directly control their server, live, regardless of their hosting platform.
We haven't had the time to write a proper update! But it's coming.
Note - Servers are a work in progress
We understand many admins want to be able to change a lot about the game, and we're fine with that. But it's something that will keep growing over time.
Day one we aren't going to let you turn everything off... But, we will let you start to choose what maps and modes you play.
Going forward, we'll of course allow more and more control of what is in your server, subject to the economy.
