Wardogs clicked with me in a way an FPS hasn't for a very, very long time.
But there has always been this weird, unspoken expectation that creators have to maintain a perfectly balanced 50/50 split between praise and criticism to prove they are being genuine.
Personally, I'm not going to deliberately tone down my enthusiasm because someone might interpret me being excited as marketing or hype farming. That's not how enjoying games works so the "shill" comments I recieve, especially as a creator who focuses on high production value are water off my back because defending my integrity would sadly become a part time job...
I'd much rather be honest about that than start manufacturing opinions based on what I think the internet will find acceptable. You don't have to agree with me on the games I like but I hope people can at least respect that I'm being genuine when I tell you I'm having fun.
I make videos because I love games. That's the entire reason I started doing this in the first place. I'm fortunate enough that it became my job, but that doesn't somehow switch off the part of me that just played games before I had to think about thumbnails, titles, algorithms, footage, editing, retention, uploads and everything else that comes with making content.
The truth is, I've played and covered a lot of FPS games during my time on YouTube and I can't remember the last time I came away from one feeling the way I do about Wardogs. There's also something refreshing about seeing a smaller, grassroots team take a swing at this kind of game.
When you hear “Early Access” these days, you can often expect a good foundation with half the content missing, placeholder systems and maybe a roadmap explaining what the actual game might eventually become.
Wardogs doesn't give me that feeling because the core experience already exists and I can't wait to play more!
No streamers were paid monies to stream this weekend…
If your friends say “it’s just paid streamers”… tell them they’re dumb.
We ran a marketing campaign where we threw a dildo on twitch and got banned. Do you think we’ve got money for streamers?
Sexual favours are more likely.
