Possible Idea to support winning mentality
I'm aware that title might sound boring so I'll try to be quick. I saw a post asking about if there is a major incentive for players to want to win matches and it seemed the consensus was that there is more of an incentive to make money over just trying to win. In that mindset I was trying to think of ways Bulkhead could help incentivize players and I have one idea but there could be a major problem with it.
I dea: Link players to factions at the start of a wipe. That faction will accumulate points based off wins/money and use an equation to see which is the highest rated faction at the end of the wipe. The players on that winning faction will receive some sort of prize to take into the new wipe.
End of Wipe Example:
• Manticore (1.5 mil dollars/200 wins)
• Lonestar (2 mil dollars/ 140 wins) • Valkyra ( 1.3 mil dollars/120 wins). Equation: (money x wins)
• Manticore: 300 mil score (Winner) • Lonestar: 280 mil score • Valkyra: 156 mil score In this example Manticore wins because they have the overall highest score at the end of the wipe even though the players have less money than Lonestar... I'm not a mathematician so I'm sure it would be more complicated than that equation but this is just to show that wins would be a big factor in it and in truth could possibly be the only factor if that makes sense.
Pros : The game hasn't even come out yet and a lot of the members of the community are already getting attached to one of the 3 factions. With this extra benefit of your faction being known as the best, you'd have bragging rights and something to show for it when the new wipe starts. This could help incentivize players to play a little harder to win especially if you can see that your faction is down in the middle of the wipe. It's basically using the ownership and attachment to factions to give people the extra drive to win.
Cons: The biggest and most obvious thing that could throw this idea out the window is that to implement it the best way possible, you'd have to have a lot of players that remain playing through out a wipe as well as enough players that chose each faction as the faction they want to represent overall playing every day. Chances are that wouldn't work out so well since I imagine the reason Bulkhead made it so that you choose your faction at the start of the match is because you can't guarantee that there will be enough players from each faction in a match otherwise. There could be days where you go to play and all the other players are part of the same faction and it wouldn't work very well at those times.
If it is to be implemented, they would probably have to make it so your faction that you choose at the start of a wipe is somewhat separate from the faction you choose at the start of a match so that you could play any faction in a match but still earn for your "wipes" faction. That doesn't sound that great to me though because I'd think it might feel weird and disassociating to play for a different faction then the one that you chose at the start of a wipe even if the money and wins count toward the "wipe" faction.
Does what I'm trying to say makes sense or did I explain it well enough? Does anyone think this idea has potential or have ways they would change it so that it would work out? This is probably not something that most people are thinking about but I always enjoy thinking of solutions to problems for games that I'm into although I tend to overthink things like this.
